Nikolai Tsukanov, the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region reported that in the short term the local government is going to sign an agreement with Kronospan, the international company who intends to build a particle board plant in the region. This information was reported by the Governor in his interview to the news agency Interfax.

"The preliminary agreement was signed in Germany, within the framework of the official visit of the delegation representing Ministry of economic development and trade of the Russian Federation. The total investment amount is still pending. So far, Kronospan declared its intention to invest about EUR 600 million in its Russian sites, supposedly in Kaluga Region, Bashkortostan, and Kaliningrad Region," said Nikolai Tsukanov in its interview to Interfax.

The Governor noted that this investment project would play a significant role in the region's economy, since Kaliningrad Region hosts a lot of large-scale furniture factories. Even though the regional enterprises produce about 30-30% of all Russian-made furniture, they are currently in a desperate need of the Russian-made components, the ones that would be of a quality that is not inferior to that of the imported ones.

The new enterprise in question may be built in Chernyakhovsk Industrial Park, where the French Arc International will create its site, Interfax notes.
