I4F patent lawsuit against Unilin: ''Hot air'' or revolution?

On the 22nd of December 2014, the company Innovations 4 Flooring (I4F) has filed a lawsuit against the flooring manufacturer Unilin. It concerns the cancellation of the patent EP 1.026.341 from 1997 in the Netherlands. In the patent laminate floorings with click-connection and their production is described. In early January, Unilin made a counter lawsuit against the patent for the Triplelock tecnhology I4F. Reactions from the industry indicate that the action is a marketing measure, in order to start a dialogue. IHB-Fordaq has spoken at this year's Domotex in Hannover, Germany with all stakeholders.... Tackling FSC fraud: Will the Online Claims Platform fail or fly?

FSC’s answer is the Online Claims Platform (OCP), a system enabling users to record and confirm their FSC transactions online. DIN and ABNT react against the FSC&PEFC rejection of the new ISO CoC

Recently, FSC and PEFC called upon the members of ISO to not support a proposal for an ISO standard to be developed for certified forest products as it stands. The proposal was launched by DIN (German Institute for Standardization) and ABNT (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas) with the purpose of elaborating a new uniform global standard chain of custody that will reduce current costs for multiple certifications.... Immense challenges in implementing EUTR in the furniture sector

The challenges of implementing the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) in the furniture sector are probably more pronounced than in any other sector. The wood content of furniture products is often extremely complex, a single piece combining composite and reconstituted panels with a variety of veneers and sawn timber, a large proportion of which may be finger-jointed from off-cuts in a wide variety of woods from numerous sources. Much of the wood content of a furniture item may be hidden, particularly in upholstered products. For the time being, this is less of a problem than it might be for EUTR for the simple reason that a large proportion of furniture products are not actually covered by the regulation. ... [more...]

Contrary to media reports, Indonesian wood exports to EU decreased

In the past few weeks, various international media reports talked about a supposed doubling (+114%) in Indonesian wood furniture exports to Europe in the first quarter of 2013. These assumptions turned out to be false. Shortly after the Indonesian timber legality assurance system (SVLK) became operational, the Indonesian Trade Minister, Mr. Bachrul Chairi, announced that Indonesian timber exports doubled, particularly based on shipments of furniture to Europe....
